Tornado Watch Issued for Much of Deep East Texas Until 8 p.m.
The Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma has issued a Tornado Watch for much of Deep East Texas.
The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday and includes Angelina, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Panola, Rusk, Cherokee, Houston, Trinity, Polk, Tyler, Jasper, and Newton Counties. Much of northern and northwestern Louisiana is also included.
The primary threats include tornadoes, scattered large hail and isolated occurrences of very large hail (egg to lime sized), plus isolated damaging wind gusts of 70 mph.
Just after lunchtime today, several strong cells of storms have been developing along the I-10 corridor and moving generally east-northeastward. These storms have been increasing in coverage and intensity.
The tornado watch area is approximately along and 60 statute miles north and south of a line from 30 miles west-northwest of College Station TX to 35 miles north northeast of Alexandria LA.
As of 2:30 p.m., several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued for areas to the north and northwest of the Houston Metro area. Quarter-sized hail and damaging straight-line winds have been the biggest threat thus far.
Another severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for southeastern Angelina and Nacogdoches counties, and southwestern San Augustine Counties.
This severe weather pattern will continue through Wednesday. A Flood Watch is in effect for much of the Pineywoods through Wednesday evening.
