Tornado Watch And Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for East Texas
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Tornado Watch for much of east and northeast Texas.
The Tornado Watch is in effect until midnight. This watch includes Houston, Trinity, Polk, and many counties throughout the Brazos Valley. Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties are not included in the Tornado Watch area.
A destructive storm moved through the Belton, Killeen, Temple, and Waco areas earlier this evening. As of 7 p.m., the storm continues to be tornado-warned.
Primary threats in the Tornado Watch include a few tornadoes, scattered damaging winds in excess of 70 mph, and large hail.
A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch
This is in effect until 11 p.m. for much of northeast Texas and a portion of the East Texas Pineywoods. Nacogdoches County is included in the watch, however, Angelina County is not.
The primary threats include scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5 inches in diameter (tennis ball-sized). There will also be some areas that experience 70 mph wind gusts associated with thunderstorms. A tornado or two is also possible.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 45 statute miles north and south of a line from 20 miles north-northwest of Tyler TX to 30 miles east of El Dorado AR.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
