The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. This watch is effective until 8 p.m. Monday.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch includes the following counties in Deep East Texas:

Polk, Tyler, San Jacinto, Jasper and Newton. Angelina, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Houston, and Trinity Counties are not included in the watch area, but residents in those counties could still expereience severe weather this afternoon and tonight.

The Primary threats from these storms include scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 80 mph. Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 3
inches in diameter are also likely.

Although a tornado watch has not been issued, an isolated twister or two could form from one of these severe storms.

Throughout this morning and early afternoon, numerous strong to severe storms have been developing from San Antonio to just west of Houston. Most of these have been along or south of the Interstate 10 corridor.

More storms are expected to develop over the next several hours and move in a generally northeastward path.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 65
statute miles north and south of a line from 50 miles north of
Victoria, Texas to 25 miles east northeast of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.

Many of these storms will be produce heavy downpours which could lead to flooding. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for much of East Texas.
