April arrives on Monday, and it will do so with a bang. That bang may come from a thunderclap or the sound of large hail taking aim on the roof of your home or car.

Severe Strom Outbreak to Start the New Month

A vigorous storm system is expected to make its way across the southern plains on Monday. It will meet up with warm, humid air along with strong wind sheer which are the perfect ingredients for a severe storm outbreak.

The possibility of damaging winds, extremely large hail, and tornadoes will be in the picture for many states across the South, Mississippi Valley, and Midwest for the first part of the week.

How's It Looking for Texas?

There's good news for the Lone Star State. The worst of the severe weather is expected to stay to our north and east.

The above map from the Storm Prediction Center shows the expectations for Monday afternoon and evening. Strong to severe storms will be possible from the Texas Hill Country all the way to the East Coast.

The Dallas Metro and parts of the Texas Red River region are under the 'Slight' threat for severe weather on Monday. However, anyone living from Oklahoma City to St. Louis is in the 'Enhanced' zone for severe weather.

The map above shows a hatched area from extreme north Texas through parts of Oklahoma and into southwestern Missouri that has a raised potential of very large hail.

Some of the severe storms that happen Monday afternoon and evening could bring hail up to 4 inches in diameter, or about the size of a grapefruit.

A few tornadoes are possible with some of the storms, especially in the same area that will be threatened by large hail. However, the threat of tornadoes is not as great as the threat of damaging hail or winds.
