TxDOT Warns Motorists of Closure, Detours Coming to Loop 224 in Nacogdoches
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is advising Nacogdoches area motorists of a major detour planned for late Thursday/early Friday morning.
Loop 224 Closure Planned for Nacogdoches
Construction crews will be performing bridge work on a portion of State Loop 224, which will necessitate the temporary closure of the southbound lanes of Loop 224 between State Highway 7 and U.S. Highway 59, on the southwest side of Nacogdoches.
The closure will begin at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, and continue until 6 a.m. on Friday, September 26. During this time, bridge girders will be installed in the construction zone, which is part of the massive ongoing project to bypass traffic congestion at the Loop 224/Highway 59 interchange.

Detours During This Loop Closure
Significant detours will be in place during this Loop 224 closure. Southbound Loop 224 traffic will be required to exit the loop at State Highway 7 West (Crockett exit). Drivers continuing onto Highway 59 towards Lufkin/Houston will travel west on State Highway 7 for approximately 6.5 miles to FM 2782 (blue dotted detour). Motorists will need to turn left and head southeast for about 5 miles on this road, which connects to Highway 59.
Alternatively, drivers wanting to continue onto Loop 224 east of the construction zone may travel Highway 7 (S. Fredonia Street) to Business 59 (marked in orange), then turn south onto Business 59 until taking the east ramp onto Loop 224.
Other detour options are available, such as accessing Loop 224 on the east side of Nacogdoches and travelling south to Highway 59. Motorists who prefer not to travel on an unfamiliar Farm-to-Market road can continue southwest on Highway 7 until they intersect with Highway 69, then head south to Lufkin.
TxDOT officials made no mention of any northbound Loop 224 closures in the same area, so we assume that northbound traffic will not be affected.
Plenty of signage will be in place marking closures and detours. Please observe all warning signs and drive safely and slowly through these work zones.
