• No Rain Has Fallen in East Texas in October

  • A Cold Front Could Bring Rain by Halloween

  • Severe Storms Are A Possibility

Not one drop of rain has fallen across most of East Texas for the entire month of October. As a result, drought conditions have worsened, the fire danger has risen, and burn bans are in place for EVERY county from Smith (Tyler) to Harris (Houston).

We definitely need some rain, but...be careful what you ask for.

Rain is Finally Back in the Forecast

A slow-moving cold front is expected to produce some showers and thunderstorms across much of the Lone Star State. The chance of rain should start on Wednesday across much of the eastern half of Texas, and last through most of the weekend.

The outlook shows that the biggest chance of rain will occur on Thursday. Wouldn't you know...we don't get any rain for the whole month, but when it's time for neighborhood trick-or-treating, here come the showers.

The Weather Prediction Center expects most of East Texas to receive rainfall amounts of up to an inch of rain through Sunday. Northeast Texas to the Dallas Metro could have 2-4 inches of rain.

The front should bring our high temperatures from nearly 90 degrees to the mid and upper 70s by the end of the week.

Severe Storms Are A Possibility

The Storm Prediction Center has issued guidance for the possibility of severe storms for portions of central and eastern Texas. These are expected to occur between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.

Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats anticipated with these storms, however, an isolated tornado may not be out of the question. Persons living around the Interstate 30 corridor and northward into Oklahoma will experience the greatest risk of severe weather.
