Details Released on Tuesday’s Fatal Shooting Near Cushing, Texas
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office has released an update concerning Tuesday's standoff that happened near Cushing, Texas.
Just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 3200 block of Highway 204 in reference to an individual who had made threats toward other people inside a residence, and who had made suicidal statements. The individual, whose name is not being released at this time, reportedly committed suicide and was pronounced deceased by a Nacogdoches County Justice of the Peace. An autopsy has been ordered.
While en route to the address, deputies were made aware that the individual had numerous firearms and other weapons inside the home, and dispatchers received a report of a shot fired. When deputies arrived in the area, they established a secure perimeter while attempting to contact the individual.
Given information that the individual was armed, had made threats towards others and was barricaded inside the residence, SWAT team members were called to the residence. While SWAT members were en route, deputies on the scene heard shooting from inside the home. When law enforcement entered the home, the individual was found deceased.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office expresses their thanks to the Nacogdoches Police Department, Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, SWAT Team and Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance in responding to this incident.
