Viral Video Shows DIY Tow Job Gone Wild on Houston Freeway
Only in Houston would a DIY tow job turn into full-blown freeway chaos.
Traffic on the 610 came to a screeching, swerving halt Monday after a blue sedan being towed backwards started whipping all over the highway like it was in a Fast & Furious blooper reel.
And yes, there’s a video. It’s gone viral for all the right (and wrong) reasons.
The blue sedan had broken down, and instead of calling for a tow truck, the driver phoned his girlfriend to help. She showed up in a white SUV, they hitched it up back-to-front, and then… physics took over.
Things went downhill fast. Somewhere along the ride, an axle snapped, the car lost control, and the sedan started flailing like a shopping cart with a broken wheel. Witnesses from nearby offices filmed the whole thing, it’s not every day you see a car swinging side-to-side down one of Houston’s busiest roads.
“It was like err err, like losing control, I heard when his tire blew out, just lots of swerving,” Ken Collins, a witness to the chaotic ordeal said.
Eventually, the duo pulled over on the feeder road, where things reportedly got heated. Witnesses say the man from the sedan was furious, yelling and slamming his hood, while the woman tried to calm him down, without success.

Surprisingly, no citations were issued for the botched tow job. But the man in the sedan didn’t exactly drive off into the sunset. Turns out he had an out-of-state warrant and was arrested on the spot.
So, lesson learned: if your car breaks down, maybe just call a real tow truck. Or at least make sure your axle, and your arrest record, can handle it.
