It’s amazing to me how many people outside of the Lone Star State don’t get why we love this Texas staple. I, for one, could live off it.

The thing you need to understand about Texans is that we view chili in two different ways. Of course, a big bowl of it makes for an excellent meal. But we also view chili as a condiment. That’s why we insist on it having no beans in it. I don’t know about you, but I’m not interested in a burger or hot dog topped with beans with chili.

The same goes for a Frito Chili Pie, the food deemed by the folks at loveFOOD to be Texas’s weirdest dish that no one outside of the state understands. I have to admit to being surprised by the result of the study. I figured everyone loved Fritos doused with chili and cheese.

The only thing we Texans can’t seem to agree on is what else goes on top of that pile of Fritos. For my money, it’s jalapeños. I’m one of those onion haters, so keep those things far away from my Frito Chili Pie.

If you’re one of those who just can’t understand our love for the original corn chip covered in chili and cheese, give it a try. I would be willing to bet money you’ll totally get it afterward.
