Ten Unsolved Homicides in Deep East Texas That Are Still Open
We always see TV shows where they talk about "unsolved cases". But the truth is, we don't think much about them. Actually, we probably think, "Yeah, that happens, but not around here." Well, the truth is, it does happen around here, and there are still several of those open cases right here in Deep East Texas.
Unsolved Homicides in Deep East Texas
There's actually a website that keeps a record of all the unsolved homicide cases in Texas. It's the Texas Rangers Unsolved Homicide Website, and it's part of the Texas Department of Public Safety. It breaks up all of the cases by geographical area. We are in what's considered "Company A", which includes Deep East Texas and Southeast Texas. It goes from Shelby County in the north, to Matagorda County in the south.
According to the Texas Rangers Unsolved Homicide Website, there are currently 28 open cases. Of those, 10 of them are in our Deep East Texas region. The oldest case was from 1981, in Angelina County, and the newest was from 2006, in San Augustine County. The others are all in between that range.
Rewards Offered for Information on Unsolved Homicides
Every one of these cases offers up to a $3,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the people responsible for these homicides. I know that it's a long shot, and the odds get even longer the older the case is. However, there might be someone out there that still has that information that hasn't turned it in yet.
