The Lufkin Police Department released a dashboard camera video, narrated by what has to be one of the most unique calls they have ever gotten. Early on Sunday morning May 19, 2024, when most of us were getting ready for church, a local kangaroo made a break for it.

A concerned citizen called the Lufkin Police after area animal control services weren't answering. This was a fun, lighthearted call, and the operator and the caller were laughing about the situation.

You can hear the amazement in the caller's voice. He was just as confused as the operator by what he was seeing.

Kangaroos are like rats in Australia, but you don't see many here in Deep East Texas.

In the video below you can see that after being dispatched to the area, they caught up to the kangaroo and even caught it on the dashcam.

LPD Officer Beaty will have a story to tell for the rest of his life.

The Lufkin Police named the kangaroo in the video. Kangaroo Jack -  after the 2003 film starring Anthony Anderson.
