The Pines Theater Turns 100 With A Community Celebration
The Pines Theater in Lufkin, Texas is celebrating it's 100th year this week. According to the Texas Historical Commission, and I didn't know this, this 100 year journey has been a fascinating one.
The History of Lufkin's Pines Theatre
The historical Pines was opened in September of 1925 and entertained audiences for decades. Then it was closed in the 50s. It bounced around a bit before becoming a church in the 80s.
The City of Lufkin purchased the property in 2007, renovating it and making it a hub of downtown entertainment.

From silent movies to vaudeville acts to church services and everything in between, the Pines has seen a lot in its 100 year existence.
And this weekend, the City of Lufkin, Love Lufkin, and the Angelina Arts Alliance will be celebrating the Pines and its 100th birthday!

First off - the birthday celebration is FREE and open to the public. There's going to be a car show on First Street, Live music, short films, free popcorn, giveaways, photo ops and a whole lot more!
Plus, it wouldn't be much of a birthday celebration without drinks, right? There's going to be a 'Front Porch Coffee Garden' from Standpipe Coffee House, a Beer Garden hosted by Rusty Axe Brewing, a Cigar Lounge and all sorts of stuff for adults and kids alike.
You can get more details about what's going on through the Birthday Party's event page on Facebook.
