My mother was a teacher for my entire life until she recently retired. Teaching is a labor of love for sure, but many of those who engage in the profession do it for their children.

To have a job where you are mostly off work the same time as your children are out of school is a big draw for many educators. That leaves more time for vacations and family time.

I know school days are long for many teachers and staff. They take on extra duties like bus driving and coaching to make ends meet.

According to KTRE, now Lufkin ISD has a huge incentive to attract teachers and other workers to the school by using one of their recently shuttered campuses as a daycare for any employee with small children.

Childcare Is A Huge Expense For Many In Deep East Texas

If your child is not old enough to go to school, and you have to work for a living, then they will be in childcare. It is usually so expensive that you might have to weigh whether it is worth it to even have a job.

Panthers Early Learning Center will offer reduced-cost childcare to all LISD employees. Other campuses in the state offer this incentive for their workers, but this is a first in the Lufkin District.

Employees with kids from 6 weeks to four years old can attend the center from 7 AM to 4:30 PM for just $25 a child. You can pack a lunch for them, or pay an extra $5 a day for meals. The cost is deducted right from the teacher's monthly salary.
