Smiles All Around For Felony Arrests In Angelina County

This past week, the Angelina County Sheriff, DPS, Adult Probation, and the Lufkin and Diboll Police departments have been very busy. They all made arrests that contributed to the faces below from February 26th to March 4th, 2025.

You would not be smiling if you had these felony charges. This week they range from aggravated assault with a deadly weapon to continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

According to KTRE, a Lufkin man was arrested after an online group tipped the police off about child pornography in his possession. The Predator Poachers told police that they had spoken to Shawn Ray Grogan, 27, on social media and reported that he had illegal material.

You Never Know Who You Are Talking to Online

Officers arrived at his Lufkin home on Frank Ave and confronted Grogan about the accusations. He admitted to having the images in question.

Police confirmed the images, and Grogan was charged with possession of child pornography. Bail has been set at $50,000.

Lufkin Police Release Annual Report For 2024

As you can tell by the number of arrests that the Lufkin Police Department makes that show up in this weekly report, they have more calls than ever. According to the Lufkin Daily News, Lufkin Police Chief David Thomas released the annual report for 2024.

In 2023 there were 38,000 calls for service, and in 2024 there were 42,000, which is an increase of 10.53% in just one year. Officers made 1,300 arrests, most of them drug-related.
