TexAmericas Center, one of the nation's largest mixed-use industrial parks, has commissioned two powerful new locomotives to significantly enhance its on-site rail operations. This $3.15 million investment dramatically increases capacity for internal switching, transloading, and yard capabilities across the campus, while also elevating safety for rail crews.

Faster Service, Greater Regional Competitiveness from East Texas

For companies operating on the campus, this new power means faster car turns, more predictable service, and quicker Speed-to-Market, ultimately supporting Speed-to-Profit. As a designated Union Pacific Focus Site, TexAmericas Center, located off I-30 just West of Texarkana, Texas, in Bowie County, will use the added capacity to cut bottlenecks and lower shipping costs.

The enhancement strengthens Texarkana’s position as a major logistics hub, making the four-state region (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas) more competitive for new investment and jobs.

  • The two locomotives are EMD GP38-2 models, each rated at 2,000 horsepower.
  • The investment will improve car staging and spotting reliability.

State Support for Defense and Industry

The project was significantly supported by a $1.5 million Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. This state support expedited the equipment deployment, strengthening logistics for tenants, including those supporting the Red River Army Depot.

“This is about giving businesses the service they need to move faster,” said Scott Norton, CEO of TexAmericas Center. “With added power and control, we can switch cars more efficiently, keep people safer on the ground, and help companies stay on schedule.”

Modern Power and Environmental Focus

For those more environmentally conscious, these new locomotives were upgraded to Tier Zero Plus emissions standards and include Hot Start technology, reducing idle time and fuel consumption. Built for dependable daily service, the units also feature improved tractive effort and enhanced safety features.

The project aligns with TexAmericas Center’s broader rail expansion, including new track, additional spurs, and sit yards designed to maximize tenant choice and capacity.
