This is How Speeding in Nacogdoches Can Lead to a $240,000 Bond
Houston Man Stopped For Speeding In the Nacogdoches Construction Area
Officers Reportedly Smelled Marijuana When Approaching The Suspect
Ecstasy, Meth, and Cocaine Were All Discovered in the Vehicle
Speeding through the Highway 59 construction zone south of Nacogdoches can be very costly. 'Work zone' traffic violations add on extra fines, but that was just the beginning of the issues for Donte Demond Brown of Houston.
On Tuesday morning, Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office deputies pulled over a vehicle that was allegedly speeding through the construction area. I've noticed quite a few vehicles over the past several months that take the drop down to 45 mph as a mere suggestion, I'm guessing that was the case here.
Brown, 44, pulled his vehicle over in a gas station parking lot (3500 block of South Street). According to a report from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, as deputies approached him, they could smell marijuana and asked him about it.
Brown responded that he had not recently smoked any marijuana; in fact, he reportedly told officers that he did not use drugs at all. However, inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, deputies located drug paraphernalia and a bag containing pills. Those were identified as ecstasy.
Subsequently, Brown was arrested. A further search of the vehicle turned up additional ecstasy in the trunk, for a total of 17.36 lbs in 38 individual packages. Deputies also located 12 individual bags of methamphetamine totaling more than 11.2 ounces and a bag of cocaine weighing 1.11 lbs.
While deputies were unable to determine whether Brown had, in fact, recently used drugs, he was still charged with three first-degree felonies for possession of a controlled substance. Each charge carries a possible punishment of five to 99 years of incarceration and a fine up to $10,000.
His bonds were set at $80,000 on each charge for a total of $240,000.
